Some of the Coconut crabs are blue, rather than orange. My research suggests that this is similar to human's with hair colour. It's a variation that has nothing to do with gender, age, or species.
This crab looks like it is carrying eggs.
Christmas Island is in the Indian Ocean Territory of Australia. It's about 360 km south of Jakarta, Indonesia, and a 3 hour 40 minute flight from Perth. Our local population is largely Chinese, followed by Malay. The rest of us fall into the minority. If you enjoy the virtual tour here, you should come and visit. The real thing is always better :-)

Wow!
I never saw a blue crab!
How interesting!
Pretty blue! But are they good to eat or what? Do the locals eat any of the crabs or is that not allowed?
Hi Angelika. The blue coconut crabs are certainly unusual and beautiful.
Hi Janni. Coconut crabs are protected. Apparently they are very good eating, but on other islands have been wiped out. They are slow to breed and slow to grow.
