Whale Shark Dreaming

I based this dot painting on a photo I took while I was diving last year.

Whale Shark

This is the second panel that I am contributing to the Gum Saan Dragon project. It is also a practice run for my next canvas.

"Island Dreaming"

When Simon and I were in WA I got very inspired by all the creative things I saw. One art exhibition we looked at had some aboriginal pieces that got me thinking again about doing my own dot painting. A part of me has resisted the idea over the last couple years because the island has no indigenous population. I finally decided to stop letting that little detail get in the way and dig into my aboriginal roots. I am particularly proud of how unsymmetrical this picture is... symmetry in patterns is something I have struggled to get away from.

Community Project

I painted this panel for a community project. It will be sewn in with other panels that will make up a body section to be added to the Gum Saan Dragon (from Ararat) due to visit the island in September.

Brown Boobies

Gentle Kiss

This was such a tender moment. One Brown booby also gifted the other with a leaf, but I didn't get a good shot of that interaction.

Crazy Ants

Towards the Winifred track end of the Circuit track, the Yellow Crazy ants were really bad. As soon as you stopped walking they started swarming over your shoes and up your legs. I tolerated their bites long enough to get a few shots of this cricket.

Awesome fungi

Cheeky Goshawk

This lovely lady followed us for quite a while on the Circuit track and kept us company while we sat and ate lunch. She was probably hoping we would scare up some decent sized insects for her lunch.
I can tell this is a female because they are larger than the male. This female is also a reasonable age - the bars on her chest are quite close. When they are young, their bars are a lot farther apart.

Fairy land fungi

Red red Robber crab

This is the reddest Robber crab I have ever seen. Gorgeous!

Verdant moss

The Circuit Track is one of the mossiest places on the island.

Photographer

Inger is a fantastic wild life photographer. I loved having her back on the island again. She helps me to feel re-inspired by the beauty around me.

Blue Robber Crab

This is a less common colour amongst Robber crabs. I love the blues.

Abbott's Booby

Friends who were on the island last week rescued this rare Booby from the side of the road and took it to Parks headquarters.

Chewed

The inner pith of this branch has been chewed in a way that has left perfect little disks.

Fuzzy Wuzzy

These caterpillars are abundant at the moment. On first glance they look like a downy feather so are easy to dismiss.

Blue Crabs

These crabs were half way up the side of Hugh's Dale waterfall.

Anderson's Dale

Inger asked me to help lead a walk into Anderson's Dale last week. This is at the mouth of the river - a gorgeous part of the island.
