This bivalve isn't considered suitable to eat by humans. The flesh is tough after cooking, hence the name "dog cockle", which implies that it's only good for dog food.

Christmas Island is in the Indian Ocean Territory of Australia. It's about 360 km south of Jakarta, Indonesia, and a 3 hour 40 minute flight from Perth.
