These gorgeous little creatures are endangered. Parks have a breeding program to help build their numbers up and learn more about them.
Christmas Island is in the Indian Ocean Territory of Australia. It's about 360 km south of Jakarta, Indonesia, and a 3 hour 40 minute flight from Perth. Our local population is largely Chinese, followed by Malay. The rest of us fall into the minority. If you enjoy the virtual tour here, you should come and visit. The real thing is always better :-)

Wow, that's gorgeous! How big are these creatures?
Simon says they grow up to 3m long and eat red crabs. If you walk bare foot in the jungle, they will attack your toes ;-)
Seriously though, this adult was about 7 cm long. Newly hatched babies are tiny - about 1.5 cm.
